Scoping elements

  • Expertise:
    - Comfort Guidance
    - Capacity Planning
    - Wayfinding Strategy
    - Place Strategy

  • I advise on the density for safe and comfortable human movement and dwelling for a space. This involves understanding your vision for a place, applying the right heuristics for operations and occupancy so we achieve footfall and atmosphere without compromising on safety. Working closely with key members of your team, we apply industry standards sensitively to ensure your guests are at ease and your team is comfortable with operating the space too.

  • I help you understand how the various parts of your site or building function, how fast they “flow”, how they can be sized to ensure that your visitors have adequate space and support to fully enjoy the experience of navigating your space. An ideal space has no unintentional bottleneck and using simple mathematical models, I can help you identify where it may be lacking in services, staff and signage; what your target KPIs for your space might be; and where you may reduce costs.

  • The wayfinding strategy of a place looks at destinations and the links between them. Components of a wayfinding strategy include: natural wayfinding elements of your site; the hierarchy of destinations; hierarchy of routes and crossroads; information planning (what appears on signs and where); space typologies review and advice on the families of signage objects to consider. This work informs product and information design for signage that is tailored to place.

  • Using geography and spatial analysis as a starting point, I help you identify a place’s qualities and potential. The strategic vision I help you shape is underpinned by sound navigational and operational insight drawn from working across the events sector and on real estate development projects, as well as a curiosity for the unique cultural value it holds. This approach has helped clients pitch and win bids.

  • I provide a comprehensive range of services related to mobility, meanwhile place planning, and long-term strategy building for Smart Cities. Things I’ve supported Smart Cities on include - but are not limited to - identifying your hierarchy of routes, strategies for active mobility, emergency planning, territorial strategy, street naming, identifying opportunities for placemaking, wayfinding, and education as well as data collection strategy and insight.

  • I have experience supporting British firms on administrative aspects of bids on French and Swiss public markets ensuring all official documents are in line and we provide the correct UK documentation when like-for-like administrative documentation is not available.

I can also support UK teams in preparing for oral interviews and contract negotiations. Working with a specialist team of English-to-French translators, I ensure that translations stay true to the original English text in spirit and in tone, and their expression in French reads contemporary and native to the jury assessing the bid.

Clinic

Fee: GBP 550, incl. prep time prior to our meeting and short notes sent after the session on key points identified.

Clinics are 1-hour long sessions with you where you I provide a quick review of your project. I focus on operational aspects and plausibility of your plans or pitch and where relevant, provide examples of possible sources of inspiration. These are great for bid submissions or early planning phases where you might want to have some external input.
